Which day and time should your weekly cleaner come?

The best day for a regular cleaner is the day after your home is at its messiest, or the day before you most want it clean. Pick morning or afternoon by who is home and what they need to do. Then choose weekly or every two weeks by how fast your home builds up work. With HomeMaster, weekends and public holidays cost the same as weekdays, so choose around your life, not the price.

Start with your week, not the calendar

A regular slot works best when it lands at the right point in your household's rhythm. Three questions usually point to the day:

1. When is the home at its worst? For many families it is after the weekend: meals at home, children about, laundry piling up. For others it is after a midweek dinner they host every week.
2. When do you most want it clean? Before weekend guests, before in-laws visit on Sunday, or at the start of a working week.
3. When is the home empty, or quiet? A cleaner works faster without having to work around people, and you may prefer not to be on calls while the vacuum runs.

These patterns come up often:

• Monday or Tuesday: a reset after a busy weekend, so the working week starts clean.
• Thursday or Friday: the home is at its best for the weekend and for guests.
• Wednesday: splits the week in two, which suits households where mess builds evenly.
• Saturday or Sunday: useful if you want to be home to show a new cleaner your priorities, or if weekdays are impossible. It costs the same as a weekday with us.

If laundry and ironing are part of the visit, think about your laundry day too. A slot the day after you usually do the washing gives your cleaner something to iron.

Morning or afternoon?

Once the day is set, the time of day comes down to who is home and what else happens then.

• Working from home? A morning slot while you are on calls can be noisy. An afternoon after your busiest meetings may suit better, or the reverse if your afternoons are packed.
• Young children? Nap times and school runs matter more than anything else. Pick the window when the home is emptiest or the children are out.
• Pets? Some dogs and cats are calmer when their owner is out, others when someone is home. You know yours.
• Cooking? If you cook a big meal most evenings, an afternoon clean leaves the kitchen fresh for dinner. A morning clean leaves it clean for the day.
• Laundry drying? If your cleaner does a wash, a morning start gives it the day to dry.

Weekly or every two weeks?

Weekly suits homes that build up work quickly: children or pets, frequent cooking, several people or bathrooms, or regular ironing. Every two weeks can be enough for a smaller or lightly used home, where someone handles dishes, rubbish and spills between visits. Price is the same per hour either way. A weekly or every-two-weeks 3 to 4 hour slot is $20/hour, and a prepaid pack of three eligible 3 to 4 hour sessions brings it to $18/hour. We do not offer a monthly schedule, so if you want help roughly once a month, book one-off visits as you need them.

Plan around public holidays

A regular slot meets the year's public holidays, and with HomeMaster a visit on a public holiday costs the same as any other day. What matters is whether you want a cleaner in your home that day. Here is how Singapore's 2027 public holidays fall, from the Ministry of Manpower's list:

If you would rather not have a clean on a holiday, move that visit early. School holidays can change your household's week too, and it may be worth moving the slot for those weeks rather than cancelling.

Keeping the same cleaner

A fixed weekly or every-two-weeks slot is the best way to see the same face each time, because the slot is set aside for your cleaner in advance. We aim to keep the same cleaner where possible, but it is not something anyone can promise every week: people fall ill and take leave. Changing your slot later

The slot you pick now is not a life sentence. Jobs change, children start school, and a Tuesday that worked in January may not work in June.

When that happens, ask Helen to move the whole schedule, for example "move all my Tuesday cleans to Thursday afternoons". She checks the new day and shows you the options before anything changes, and she tells you plainly if any fee applies.
