Which aircon service do you actually need

Most people book the wrong one, either paying for an overhaul when a wash would do, or paying for servicing three times before someone tells them the unit needed a wash. The short version:

  • General servicing: routine maintenance. Filters, drainage, a vacuum and a function test. Do this every 3 to 4 months.
  • Chemical wash: the coil is cleaned in place with chemicals. Book this when cooling has dropped off or there is a musty smell that servicing did not fix.
  • Chemical overhaul: the fan coil is dismantled, cleaned fully and reassembled. For a unit that has been neglected for years or is leaking from a blocked tray.
  • Gas top-up: only for a unit that is genuinely low on refrigerant. A unit that keeps needing gas has a leak, and topping it up again is money wasted.

How often should you service your aircon in Singapore

Every 3 to 4 months for a unit in daily use. Singapore runs humid all year, so coils stay damp and grow biofilm far faster than in a temperate climate, and a neglected unit loses cooling efficiency long before it actually fails.

If a bedroom unit runs overnight most nights, treat quarterly as the baseline rather than the maximum. Units in rooms that are rarely used can stretch to twice a year.

Why your aircon is not cold

In rough order of likelihood: a clogged filter or coil restricting airflow, a drainage tray blocked enough to trip the unit, low refrigerant from a leak, or a failing compressor or capacitor.

The first is by far the most common and is fixed by servicing or a chemical wash. The last is a repair, not a service, and we will tell you that rather than sell you a wash that cannot help.

Why there is a musty smell

That smell is biological growth on a permanently damp evaporator coil, and it is not something a filter clean reaches. A chemical wash removes it. General servicing usually will not.

If the smell returns within a month or two of a wash, the unit is holding water somewhere it should not, which points at the drainage tray and an overhaul.

How our pricing compares, honestly

On chemical overhaul we are cheaper than the major platforms at every unit count, $150 for one unit against roughly $160 elsewhere. On chemical wash we are level at one unit and better above it.

On plain general servicing we are not the cheapest per unit, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. If your only criterion is the lowest advertised per-unit rate for routine servicing, there are cheaper options in Singapore.

What you get here instead is a price that does not move: no weekend or public holiday surcharge, no card fee, GST already included, and no upsell to an overhaul when a wash is what the unit needs.

Frequently asked questions

How much does aircon servicing cost in Singapore?

Our general servicing is $50 for one unit and $88 for four, which works out at $22 a unit. A chemical wash is $80 for one unit and a chemical overhaul is $150. All prices include GST with no surcharges.

How often should I service my aircon?

Every 3 to 4 months for a unit in daily use. Singapore's humidity keeps coils damp all year, so biofilm builds up much faster than in a dry climate. Units in rarely used rooms can stretch to twice a year.

What is the difference between a chemical wash and a chemical overhaul?

A chemical wash cleans the coil in place, from $80 a unit. An overhaul dismantles the fan coil, cleans it fully and reassembles it, from $150 a unit. A wash suits a unit with reduced cooling or a smell; an overhaul suits one neglected for years or leaking from a blocked tray.

Why is my aircon not cold?

Most often a clogged filter or coil restricting airflow, which servicing or a chemical wash fixes. It can also be a blocked drainage tray, low refrigerant from a leak, or a failing compressor. The last is a repair rather than a service, and we will say so.

Why does my aircon smell musty?

Biological growth on a permanently damp evaporator coil. A chemical wash removes it; general servicing usually will not. If the smell comes back within a month or two, the unit is retaining water and needs an overhaul.

Do you charge extra for weekends or public holidays?

No. Weekends and public holidays cost the same as a weekday, and there is no card or PayNow surcharge. All prices include GST.

How long does aircon servicing take?

Roughly 20 minutes a unit for general servicing, 30 minutes for a chemical wash and about an hour for a chemical overhaul. A four unit general service is normally done inside 90 minutes.

Do you service ceiling and window units?

Yes. Window and portable units are priced separately from wall mounted fan coils, so tell Helen what you have and she will quote the exact total rather than a range.

My aircon keeps needing gas. Is that normal?

No. Refrigerant is a closed loop, so a unit that repeatedly runs low has a leak. Topping it up again treats the symptom. We would rather find the leak than sell you gas twice.

Is a servicing plan worth it?

If you are servicing quarterly anyway, yes. The quarterly plan covers 4 visits from $180 for one unit, which is less than four separate general services.

Do I need to be home?

Someone needs to let the technician in and be available at the end, because you will be asked to confirm the work. Helen arranges access with you beforehand.

How do I book aircon servicing?

Message Helen on WhatsApp with your unit count and the symptom, or book on this page. You get real slots and an exact total before committing.
