Can you get a same-day cleaner in Singapore?

Sometimes, but do not count on it. Most cleaners' days are booked in advance, so a same-day visit depends on a gap happening to open near your home at a time that suits you. If you need help urgently, the practical plan is: ask for the earliest real opening, be flexible on time and length, and do a quick reset yourself if nobody can come today. This guide explains each step.

Why same-day cleaners are hard to find

A cleaner can only be in one home at a time, and a good service does not cram jobs back to back. We leave at least 30 minutes between a cleaner's jobs, an hour around lunchtime, plus 30 more minutes for every 5 km between the two homes, so nobody is rushed across the island. That makes each cleaner's day a planned route, usually set well before the morning starts.

So a same-day opening needs several things to line up at once:

• a cleaner with a free block long enough for your visit
• that block falling near your home, once travel is allowed for
• the timing suiting you as well
• enough notice for the cleaner, who has plans of her own

A cancelled job in Jurong at 2pm does not help a home in Pasir Ris. That is why honest services show you what is actually open instead of promising a cleaner "today" and hoping.

What to expect when you book with HomeMaster

• Next day onward, usually. Most bookings start from the next day. Where a same-day visit is possible, it is a one-off evening clean booked by early afternoon. Weekly and every-two-weeks slots always start on a later day.

How to get a clean sooner

You cannot create a free cleaner, but you can make it much easier to find the gaps that exist:

1. Send everything in one message. Postal code, floor and unit number, the type of home, the hours you want, and "one-off". Every question you answer up front gets you to a real option sooner.
2. Give a wide window. "Any time tomorrow" finds far more options than "tomorrow at 10am". If mornings are hard, say so, but leave the rest open.
3. Consider a shorter visit. A 2-hour visit fits into gaps that a 4-hour one cannot. Point it at what matters most, usually the kitchen and bathrooms, and book a longer clean later.
4. Have the basics ready. With us you provide a working vacuum cleaner and mop, and your cleaner brings the cloths and cleaning products. If those two are ready and access is sorted, nothing holds the booking up.
5. Book the next one now. If you often find yourself scrambling, a regular weekly or every-two-weeks slot means the time is already yours.

If nobody can come today: a one-hour reset

Guests arriving tonight and no cleaner free? You can make a real difference in an hour. Work in this order, top to bottom and clean to dirty:

1. Ten minutes: clear surfaces. Put loose items from counters, tables and the floor into a basket and move it to a bedroom. Clear surfaces make every room look cleaner at once.
2. Fifteen minutes: the guest toilet. Toilet, basin, tap and mirror, a quick wipe of the floor around the toilet, a fresh hand towel, and the bin emptied.
3. Fifteen minutes: the kitchen. Dishes washed or in the dishwasher, counters and hob wiped, the sink cleaned, rubbish out.
4. Fifteen minutes: the living room. Vacuum or sweep the areas people walk on, straighten cushions, wipe the coffee table.
5. Five minutes: air it out. Open windows, switch on the fans, and take the rubbish down.

Short-notice bookings: know the terms

A booking made for today or tomorrow is, by definition, inside 48 hours of its start. With HomeMaster that matters in three ways:

• Cancelling or rescheduling it costs 50% of the session price, because the free monthly change needs at least 48 hours' notice.
• A visit cannot be cancelled within 2 hours of its start.
• Moving the start by up to an hour on the same day, with the same cleaner, is free if she is still free.

Urgency is also when people get caught out. An advert promising a cleaner "within the hour" that asks for a deposit to a personal bank account is a warning sign, not a lucky find.
